Maintaining a Healthy Weight During the Holidays

Author: Ariyana

Most people gain the majority of their weight throughout the entire year during the time period of the holidays. There are many things you can do to make sure you don’t gain a lot of weight throughout the holidays. These things include paying attention to the snacking at work and the parties.

Snacking is the worst thing you can do if you are watching your weight. Snacking occurs more throughout the holidays because people are partying around the Christmas trees with candy and other foods. Besides decorating the artificial Christmas trees people eat non-stop. More candy sales take place during the Christmas holidays and Valentine’s Day than any other day of the year. The problem with Christmas is that people begin preparing to celebrate this holiday up to two months prior to the actual date.

Many people gain weight during the holidays because of all of the excess food brought to work during this time. Your employer may have buffet luncheons, bring sweets, and more things. The best way to watch your weight while you are working is to bring your own healthy snacks like carrot and celery sticks. If people have a ton of chocolates and candy throughout the office you may want to avoid walking around. You can avoid the people who have all of the food at their desks also. During your lunch hour, try to go for a brisk 15 minute walk rather than spend so much time mingling. Also, people will be supportive if you let it be known you are watching your weight.

If you are planning a Christmas party this year like you do every year this can be difficult. Just that one night of splurging can leave you leftovers of junk that will contribute to weight gain. Consider having healthy snacks for your guests that come to your party. If you don’t want leftovers then be sure to send people home with containers of food to take with themselves. This includes the pies, cookies, chocolates, etc.

Another thing to consider if you want to avoid gaining weight during the holidays is not to snack at all. You may want your focus to be somewhere other than the kitchen. Take extra long while you decorate the artificial Christmas tree and avoid the kitchen. Don’t participate in the pie and fudge making activities. Choose other activities like hanging out by the Christmas trees and not the food.

The holidays is the most difficult time of year to lose weight. The average amount of weight people gain during the Christmas season is around 30 pounds. No one wants to gain this and it usually takes the rest of the year to get it off. The best things you can do to avoid gaining weight during the holidays is avoid the snacking altogether, watch the foods you are snacking on, and finding other activities to do rather than snacking. Avoid the desks that have all of the candy and foods on them and try to keep up your exercise routine.
